Willie Clancy Festival Miltown Malbay

July 5th- 13th
Miltown Malbay
County Clare

42nd Willie Clancy Summer School

This summer school (Scoil Samhraidh) held in Miltown Malbay on the County Clare Coast is all about teaching traditional music with instruments and dancing at its heart. Hundreds of talented teachers and students come together to learn, celebrate, and entertain the public. Nightly set dances, ceilis, and many sessions will be popping up in pubs and venues all throughout the Miltown area.

The festival was the idea of Willie Clancy himself, the town’s most famous uilleann piper and has been celebrated every year since his passing in 1973. The festival opens with a music tribute at Clancy’s grave to remind all attending of its roots and local tradition.

If you are planning a visit to the Willie Clancy Festival from Dublin, why not Cycle there? See more on the 5th annual Na Piobairi Uileann (NPU), or ‘Reels on Wheels’ as they say here.

Sign-ups will begin on July 5th in the Community Centre, Miltown Malbay from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. Further enrolment will be at various places on Sunday from 7:00pm to 9:00pm, and Monday morning from 9:00am.
The 140 euro fee will get you into all morning workshops, classes, lectures and evening recitals. Get an extra 5 euro off all celli with enrolment. The fees do not cover the Saturday concert however. The public may purchase tickets before the events or at the door.

This traditional Irish Music Festival is just another excuse to get yourselves to County Clare this summer. All the action is just a scenic coastal drive down the Wild Atlantic Way from us here in Doolin. In between the action you can always take a ferry to the stunning Aran Island or Cruise the Cliffs of Moher.
Hope to see you there!
