Inisheer (Inis Oirr) is the smallest of the three Aran Islands. Its name means “Back Island” and is the closest island to Doolin Pier. The population of this Island is about 300 people. Our new DOOLIN EXPRESS ferry provides the fastest crossing to the Aran Islands with only a 15-minute journey from Doolin to Inisheer.
Inisheer is a charming island with a lot to offer. Visitors to this island can enjoy medieval ruins, seal colonies, a shipwreck (of Father Ted fame), fantastic walks, and much more.
While on Inisheer you get the true feeling that the Islands were once part of The Burren, Co. Clare. The flora and landscape of this Island has northern and alpine species which are rare and under conservation order. All visitors are advised to be respectful of the natural environment when visiting. Looking out onto the Clare Coastline you witness breath-taking views of the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher from a truly unique perspective.
This island is highly recommended for families with children big and small. The main sights of Inis Oírr are all easily accessible from the port of arrival. Upon your arrival you will meet an array of touring options such as Bike Hire, Horse and Carts, and also Mini Bus tours. There is a newly built playground which is located just behind the beach making it an ideal area for picnicking. The beach lies just to the left of the Pier where you arrive. Inisheer ferries from Doolin depart several times a day from Doolin.
Located just behind the beach and playground area you will find sport is alive and well this island. Inisheer has recently installed an AstroTurf alongside their sporting pitch and hosted the All Ireland Islands Gaelic Football Tournament in 2013. O’Brien Ferries Doolin Est. 1970 is a proud sponsor of the Aran Islands Football team.
There are many cafes and places to have lunch or dinner on Inisheer. There are 3 Pubs serving food & refreshments, a small convenient store for bits & pieces, and an array of cafes for delicious island fare. We can’t possibly say enough about Inis Oírr. It is truly a special place and happens to be one of our favourites! Be sure to download and bring along your INISHEER MAP HERE! You should also check out the Inisheer website Discover Inis Oirr.
This is the best ferry service to use in Doolin! Do not let the other two offices try to trick you on the Pier. Bill O’Briens is the only...

Easy to book, and a lovely cruise in front of the cliffs. Comfortable boat with an informed crew. Tickets bought online should mention to head straight to the pier.
